23 year-old Tai “Doughbeezy” Carr is another Houston rapper in our SXSW showcase. After the release of his first official single, “What Yo Name Iz?” in early 2011, he released his single “Drank in My Cup” that fall-- it hit #28 on Billboard’s Hot 100. “Drank in My Cup” has been remixed multiple times by artists including 2 Chainz, Tyga, Chamillionaire, and Trey Songz. While he’s released 6 mixtapes already, we’re excited to see what Dough has on the horizon.

Vegas-based Dizzy Wright (real name La’Reonte Wright) credits his days as a concert promoter as inspiration to eventually get signed by monster label Funk Volume, which happened in 2011. Smokeout Conversations was released on 4/20 2012 and hit #42 on Billboard’s Hip-Hop/R&B Chart. Two months later his free mixtape Free SmokeOut Conversations, which featured Hopsin and SwizZz, was downloaded over 170,000 times. He might be 22, but this freshman is already gaining a huge following. His EP, The First Agreement, is out now.
